What is it worth to have your practice evaluated by SOS Consulting?

I recently took the opportunity of having SOS evaluate my office with the goal of helping me to take an objective reality check of my practice. This required some risk on my part. It's like putting your whole career under a microscope, as it would expose my office to outside experts and risk the potential upset to my office routine and staff.

Even though our office was functioning well with excellent yearly profit year in and year out, I felt like I would like to look at the office from someone else's perspective. It was an eye opening experience.

Having the Jason, Lynn and John as consultants could not have been more of an asset as they are intimately involved in podiatric administration form different backgrounds. Jason was the past CEO of Benefoot Orthotic Labs and has been involved with the profession for over 20 years, Lynn has been involved in the Podiatric Assistance Organization and has run podiatric practices for over 20 years, and John is not only a practicing podiatrist but also has an MBA. All are on the board of AAPPM.

They performed on site assessments with a comprehensive report of their findings which were eye opening and very relavent. These included CPT analysis, and documentation audits. But the best service that they performed was their evaluation of my staff and their job descriptions.

Our office staff was reticent at first, as they are not used to being scrutinized by outside consultants. They in fact, thought that there jobs were at risk. However, each consultant used more than psychology to get each employee to open up to their feelings and concerns, without coercion or intimidation.

Needless to say, their initial recommendations more than paid for their fee. But more importantly, they have made us accountable by keeping us on target, with follow up reports via telephone and internet.. This accountability is what I need to make the needed changes that they recommended, to become a reality.

I would not hesitate to recommend them to any practice big or small, especially in these "managed care" times where our reimbursements are decreasing and our overhead is increasing.

It is a pleasure to work with the SOS Management group in the restructuring phase of my practice. At a time when my practice is in a growth phase expanding to three locations, I was feeling significantly overwhelmed and feeling that my time was spent more on attempting to manage rather than actually seeing patients! It came to a point where I was no longer able to supervise my employees directly as I was running to multiple locations.

The SOS management group of John, Lynn, and Jason came to the rescue. Each one, with their own area of expertise, came on-site to the offices and were immediately able to identify many of the problems. After their initial evaluations, I received a written report of their findings recommending immediate actions to take. Granted, these actions were not easy, but that is probably why I let these problems ferment and grow like a fungus in the first place!

Having their support behind me has allowed me to implement their plan. Just knowing that whenever a potential problem occurs during the day (involving accounting, marketing, managing, or staffing), help is just a phone call away.

I have found the SOS Management group to be highly specialized in the field of podiatry and very sensitive to the needs of the practitioner. They take the time to fully understand the individual doctor as well as the practice, before offering a plan for efficiency.
